Postcard exchange and some more / Intercambio de postales y algo más

A few weeks ago I was invited by Macarena to take part of a postcard exchange that she was organizing in her blog CariñoMalo. The idea was to send a postcard (or as many as you wanted) that showed the place where you live as a way to bring to life the old nice feeling of getting "real post" on your mail box... which is ALWAYS exciting!

Hace un par de semanas Macarena me invitó a participar en un intercambio de postales que ella estaba organizando en su blog CariñoMalo. La idea era enviar una postal (o cuantas uno quisiera) que mostrara el lugar donde uno vive y así revivir el sentimiento que origina el recibir "correo de verdad" en el buzón... ¡lo cual es siempre muy emocionante!

This envelope was sent by Eugenia, an Argentinian living in Germany who has a WONDEFUL blog devoted to her photography and DIY projects.

A postcard, of course. Poor Eugenia had it a bit difficult at first when she saw that she was assigned the ONLY guy who was taking part of the exchange!

Continuing talking about presents, about two weeks ago I met my friend Linda Björk at a knitting meeting at our LYS and she had a little bag full of surprises for me!

And to finish and stop talking about presents... I have finished a new bookmark using the threads that Kristín Hrund gave a few weeks ago...

Ahora, hablando de otra cosa... terminé un nuevo marca páginas para el cual utilicé los hilos que Kristín Hrund me dio hace unas semanas...

There are a couple of mistakes but they are not very evident... so I can live with it, hehe.
Hay algunos errorcillos por allí, pero afortunadamente no son TAN evidentes... así que en realidad puedo vivir con ellos, jeje.

* The most challenging part of the whole thing was to make the chevron sections (which are the half stitch diamonds around the spiders) because it is necessary to be very precise in order to get the bands more or less of the same size. The first and second worked really well but there is something a bit weird about the third.

* La parte más complicada fue hacer las secciones de chevron a medio punto (que son los rombos alrededor de las arañas) porque para que queden bien hay que ser consistente con el orden en que se trabajan las bandas para que ellas queden más o menos del mismo tamaño. El chevron alrededor de la primera y segunda araña quedó bastante bien pero el tercero quedó medio raro.

* Overall it was a quick and rather simple bookmark, except for the diamonds that had me thinking for a good while before attempting to make them!

* En términos generales, fue un proyecto rápido y más bien sencillo, excepto por el ya mencionado chevron a medio punto que me tuvo pensando un buen rato antes de empezar a hacerlos.

A little bit of color: Is it the summer to blame? / Un poco de color: ¿Es por culpa del verano?

I think there is nothing better than an Icelandic Summer and not only because it is plenty of light all day but also because the temperature is just incredibly comfortable ... even though in these latitudes you really never know what is going to happen with the weather, it might rain a few days, be windy some others or all together in one single day.

Estoy casi convencido de que no hay nada mejor que un verano islandés, y eso no sólo porque hay luz todo el día sino que también porque la temperatura es simplemente perfecta, nunca llega a ser incómoda... aunque en realidad por estas latitudes uno nunca sabe qué va a pasar con el tiempo, puede llover unos días, hacer viento otros días o bien todo junto en un sólo día. 

But the last ten days have been just wonderful! Sun, sun, sun and more sun! Funny thing that while living in Santiago de Chile I was always hiding from the sun, I just didn't want it... it was too much! And now I don't miss a chance to be embraces by its nice warmth.

¡Los últimos diez días han sido una maravilla! Sol, sol, sol y más sol. Lo divertido es que mientras vivía en Santiago de Chile lo único que hacía todo el verano era esconderme del sol, ahora ¡no pierdo la oportunidad para dejarme abrazar con el calor del sol!

I guess that all this sunlight has brought me to play more with colors. Until now I have only been making bobbin lace with white or off-white thread. Now that is starting to change. On an afternoon meeting downtown Reykjavík with my friend Kristín Hrund a couple of weeks ago I decided that I wanted to buy more colorful thread... so we went to a wool shop, Storkurinn, that has a really nice corner full of fabrics for quilting and lost of threads in the most wonderful colors!

Supongo que toda esta enorme cantidad de luz en la que estoy viviendo me ha hecho pensar más en colores y en jugar con ellos. Hasta ahora, había sólo trabajado el encaje de bolillos con hilos blancos o marfiles. Pero esto está por cambiar. En una juntada con mi amiga Kristín Hrund en el centro de Reykjavík decidí que era tiempo de comprar hilos de colores... nos fuimos a una tienda de lanas llamada Storkurinn (La cigüeña), donde hay una rincón dedicado al patchwork y tienen un montón de hilos de colores!

Of course I could't wait to try them so I took purple and yellow to make a new bookmark...  decided to make the same one I did before basically because I wanted it to be done quickly... so no thinking or figuring out anything just to see how it looked like!

Desde luego que no pude esperar para probarlos, así que tomé el morado y el amarillo para hacer un marcapáginas. Decidí hacer el mismo patrón que había hecho antes para no tener que perder tiempo tratando de entender cómo se hace y así terminarlo rápidamente para ver cómo queda.

I have just realized that I made the same mistake I did once before!!! I forgot to close one the squares!! Arrrgh! Too much attention seems to be never enough! Anyways... I think the colors look pretty cute, even thought the contrast between them is maybe too much.
¡¡¡Ahora mirando la foto con calma me acabo de dar cuenta de que he cometido el mismo error que antes!!! Qué bruto soy. Se me olvidó cerrar uno de los cuadrados del punto de la rosa :( Parece que mucha atención y concentración no son nunca suficientes. De todas maneras, me parece que los coloers se ven lindos juntos, aunque el contraste entre ellos es quizás demasiado grande. 

And continuing talking about colors... the story doesn't end here! Last week, Kristín Hrund and me met again... we went for some coffee and bookstore diving downtown... and she had a huge little surprise for me!

Y siguiendo con el tema de los colores... la historia no termina allí. La semana pasada, Kristín y yo nos juntamos nuevamente... nos tomamos un café y nos fuimos a mirar librerías en el centro, pero eso no fue todo... Kristín tenía además una pequeña gran sorpresa para mí! 

Kristín goes regularly to some kind of fleamarket called Samhjálp where it is possible to find just about anything for very little money. Well, she found something really, really cool and got it for me!!

Kristín va regularmente a una especia de feria de pulgas llamada Samhjálp, donde es posible encontrar casi de todo por muy poco dinero. Bueno, ella encontró algo muy, muy, muy bonito y ¡lo compró para mí!

The brand is called Ören Bayan, it is from Turkey. It is 100% cotton. Sweet colors, aren't they?!
La marca se llama Ören Bayan, es de Turquía. Este hilo es 100% algodón. Lindos colores, ¿no?

I am already working on a new bookmark, one that is little more challenging that hopefully will work out well... I can't wait to finish it to show her how cool the threads that she gave me worked for bobbin lace!

Ya he empezado a hacer un nuevo marcapáginas, uno un poco más complicado y que espero resulte bien (sin sorpresas al final). ¡No puedo esperar para ver cómo quedará!

Going back to talking about summer, I really never thought that I would like summers so much as I do now (is it maybe also because of the nine months of winter!?)  It has been so nice that I must admit that I have been barely knitting at home... so I still have three ETERNAL WIPs, though one of the is about, about to be done! I have been spending more time making outdoors activities... like last weekend that we went camping with a group of friends to a WONDERFUL place called Þjórsárdalur... everything was just perfect!

Volviendo al tema del verano... nunca me imaginé que disfrutaría tanto del verano como lo hago aquí (¿¡quizás será también por los nueve largos meses de invierno!?) Este verano ha sido tan bueno que debo admitir que no he estado tejiendo mucho últimamente en casa. Todavía estoy enredado con tres proyectos ETERNOS, aunque uno ya está casi, casi acabado. He estado pasando mucho más tiempo haciendo actividades al aire libre... como el fin de semana recién pasado... nos fuimos de campaña con un grupo de amigos a un lugar precioso llamado Þjórsárdalur... todo fue simplemente ESPECTACULAR.

The first day we went to a place called Gjáin, it is some kind of an oasis in the middle on NOTHING. The access is a bit difficult so the safest way to get there is on a 4x4.

El primer día nos fuimos a pasear a un lugar llamado Gjáin. Es algo así como un oasis en el medio de la NADA MISMA: El acceso es un poco difícil así que la mejor manera de llegar allí es en un 4x4.

There is water flowing from everywhere! Even from under the lava!

Hay agua por todos lados. ¡Incluso fluyendo desde la lava misma!

We had to take a dip in the water to be able to cross to the other shore.

Tuvimos que mojarnos un poco para poder pasar hasta el otro lado del riachuelo.

I guess I need no words to say how cold the water was!!!

After Gjáin, we went to a really cool thermal swimming pool, which is, again, in the middle of absolutely nowhere! Þjórsárdalslaug.

Después de visitar Gjáin nos fuimos a una piscina termal increíble, la cual, nuevamente, esta en medio de la nada misma! 

The geysir from where the water comes from is right next to the swimming pool. The water was at 38-40°C The best thing of all is that there is no fee to enter, it is just a voluntary fee.

El agua viene directamente de un geysir que está al lado de la piscina. El agua estaba a 38-40°C. Lo mejor de todo es que no hay tarifa para entrar, sólo hay que dejar un aporte voluntario.  

The day after we went for the real adventure. It was such a sunny and warm day (about 18°C) that we went to a beautiful waterfall called Hjálparfoss to take a dip in the river!

El día siguiente fuimos por la aventura de verdad... el día estaba perfecto (sol y 18°C) para probar darse un baño en un río cercano junto a una cascada llamada Hjálparfoss.

Hjálparfoss. There is a little lagoon and then the river continues its way.

Some of the brave one! (I was already wet! I couldn't resist the temptation of jumping into the water immediately!)

¡Algunos de los valientes! (Yo para cuando tomaron la foto ya estaba todo mojado, no pude aguantar la tentación de tirarme al agua en cuanto llegamos!!)

The most funny thing was to see the faces of the tourists that were there, all dressed almost for going up to a glacier, while were half naked bathing in the river! Now, the water was FREEZING COLD!!!

Lo más chistoso de todo fue ver la cara de los turistas que andaban por allí, todo vestidos como para subir a un glaciar mientras nosotros estábamos medio desnudos bañándonos en el río. ¡El agua estaba SÚPER FRÍA!

I guess it is understandable that I am not knitting so much lately, right? hehe

Supongo que se entiende por qué no he estado tejiendo mucho últimamente, ¿verdad? jeje

Playing with Bobbin Lace and a Terrible Accident! / Jugando con encaje de bolillos y ¡un terrible accidente!

Since I started to teach bobbin lace to Sayo I decided that I needed to start practicing myself. It had been almost nine months since the last time I made some bobbin lace exercise so it was time to refresh my memory :)

Desde que le empecé a enseñar a hacer encaje de bolillos a Sayo, decidí que yo mismo necesitaba practicar un poquito (para ser un buen profe, ¿no?). La última vez que había tomado los bolillos fue hace aproximadamente nueve meses, así ya era tiempo para refrescar un poco la memoria :)

It has been quite a journey! Lots of mistakes and lots new things to learn!

¡Retomar los bolillos ha sido un pedazo de viaje! Muchos errores pero a la vez muchas cosas que aprender.

So, I decided to start with something rather simple. Looking through some of the books I have I found a pattern for a book marker that would help review some basic stitches.

Entonces, decidí empezar con algo más bien simple. Ojeando algunos de los libros que tengo, encontré un patrón para un marcapáginas que me permitiría repasar algunos de los puntos más básicos.

It started pretty smooth. I was surprised to see that everything was coming back so easily!
Todo empezó bastante bien. ¡Me sorprendió bastante lo rápido que todo volvía a mi cabeza!

When I was starting to take the pins to use them as the piece was growing I found a HORRIBLE mistake!! (I guess I don't even have to point it!)
Cuando empecé a retirar alfileres (porque se me habían aabado) me di cuenta de un error ¡HORRENDO! (Que supongo ni siquiera necesito decir dónde está).

After realizing that I had made a huge mistake and that it was all the way up... I didn't feel like undoing AT ALL (it takes too long!). So I decided to cut the thread and leave it there (the book marker was not THAT cute anyways, hehe).


Al darme cuenta del error que había hecho y ver cuán arriba estaba en la labor, decidí cortar los hilos y ponerle punto final. Deshacer toma demasiado tiempo y además el marcapágina ni siquiera estaba quedando tan bonito, jeje.

Now, I didn't give up and decided that I had to make another one. So, talking to Mayte (who has a wonderful blog and makes beautiful things!) looking for some advice among other things she tought me she also sent me some cool patterns.


Ahora, no me di por vencido y decidí hacer otro. Contacté a Mayte (que tiene un blog precioso y hacer unas cosas maravillosas) para que me diera algunos consejos y al final terminó hasta enviándome unos patrones de marcapáginas muy lindos.

So, I started all over again! 


¡Así que empecé nuevamente!

My first attempt was to make it with linen (nº35/2). The result was this:


En mi primer intento usé hilo de lino (nº35/2). Este fue el resultado:

Overall, I was happy with how it turned out, except for the fact that I think that the thread I used was too thick for the pattern, so the fans (those two rounded things on the middle) look too chunky and not clear. I think I should have had to use the pattern at 110% of the original (that means 5.5 mm between dots) in order to have had this right.

En términos generales, sí, quedé contento con cómo resultó, excepto por el hecho que el hilo que usé era demasiado grueso para el picado. Como pueden ver, en las conchas el hilo está todo amontonado y deforme. Creo que debí haber usado el patrón al 110% de su tamaño original (o sea, 5.5mm entre puntos) para que hubiera resultado bien. 

This was something REALLY cool I learned making this book marker: A flat knot. Doesn't it look awesome?
Esto fue algo muy chulo que aprendí al hacer este marcapáginas: Un nudo plano. No les parece chulo?

Since I was just happy with the result, and not ECSTATIC, I decided to give it another try (I don't give up easily!!) but this time with cotton nº30 (a much finer and softer thread).

Como sólo terminé contento con el resultado y no EXTASIADO, decidí intentar una vez más (¡no me rindo fácilmente!) pero esta vez usando hilo de algodón nº30 (mucho más suave y fino que el lino)

So, I cut the threads... one more time and started AGAIN!!


Una vez más corté los hilos y empecé de nuevo.

This time, everything worked smooth as silk and it took me almost no time to finish it!! (just a few hours!)


Como dicen, la tercera es la vencida, y sí... ¡lo fue! Esta vez fue mucho más fácil y rápido (me tomó sólo unas pocas horas terminarlo).

• Bobbins / Bolillos: 32. 

• Thread / Hilo: Cotton nº30 (two colors) / Algodón nº30 (dos colores)

• Pattern / Picado: Distance between dots: 4mm (80% of the original) / Distancia entre dos puntos: 4mm (80% del original).

• Stitches / Puntos:

• Torchon ground / Torchón
• Rosebud ground / Punto de la virgen
• Half stitch bands /  Bandas a medio punto
• Fans / Conchas
• Twisted footsides / Pie girado
• Cloth stitch / Punto de repaso
• Flat knot / Nudo plano

A little closer: In this one it is possible to see the stitches very well. It much "cleaner" than the one made with linen.
Un poquín más cerca: En este marcapáginas es posible visualizar los puntos mucho mejor. Es mucho más "limpio" que el hecho con lino.

• I learned with this little projects one thing about myself: I don't give up easily!! And I am happy about that!

• Con estos projectos aprendí una cosa sobre mí: ¡¡No me rindo fácilmente!! Y estoy contento por eso :)

• Technically, I learned how to make half stitch bands that "touch each other". There is a certain technique to have a a result two bands of the same with. The secret is choosing the right working pair. So, for bands that slant to the left you choose the right pair (from the starting point) as working pair. On the other hand, for right slanting bands, you choose the left pair. This way you will get two bands of the same with.

• Técnicamente hablando, aprendí a hacer bandas a medio punto que van conectadas en un punto. Hay una técnica para obtener bandas del mismo grosor. El secreto está en saber escoger el par que será el par de trabajo. Para una banda que se inclina hacia la izquierda, se debe usar el par de la derecha (respecto al punto de inicio de la banda) como par de trabajo (lanzadera). Mientras que para una banda que se inclina hacia la derecha, se toma el par de la izquierda como lanzadera. Así, ambas bandas quedarán con el mismo grosor.

• I also learned to connect both bands using cloth stitch.

• También aprendí a conectar las dos bandas usando punto entero.

• Finishing the book mark was really exciting! I used cloth stitch to bring all the pairs to the middle and then knot them using the outer pairs to make a flat knot (which is extremely easy!!)

• ¡Rematar el marcapáginas fue una pasada! Lo hice a punto de repaso, trayendo todos los pares hasta el centro de la labor. Luego, usando los pares externos hice un nudo plano (¡que es lo más fácil y bonito del mundo!)

• Mayte gave me such a good advice!! She recommended me not to use pins with a crystal head, instead it is better to use those with a little tiny head so I can see what I am doing! It seems to be something so obvious... but I didn't even think about it until she told me!

• Mayte me dio un consejo buenísimo. Me recomendó dejar de usar los alfileres con cabeza de cristal y empezar a usar los que tienen la cabeza chiquita para poder así ver la labor y evitar errores. Parece ser algo tan obvio, ¡pero a mí ni siquiera se me había ocurrido!

Finally, and to finish this topic, there is one more thing I learned making this project: Since I used a very fine cotton to make something that has to be rather resistant I wanted to try to use starch to make it stiffer. How did I do it?


Finalmente, y para terminar con este tema, hay una cosa más que aprendí con este marcapáginas: Como usé algodón, el resultado no es lo suficientemente fuerte como para ser un buen marcapáginas. Entonces, probé almidonarlo. ¿Cómo lo hice?

To make the starch solution:

Para hacer la solución de almidón:

• 2 cups of cold tab water / 2 tazas de agua fría del caño
• 1 table spoon of Maizena (corn starch) / 1 cucharada sopera de Maizena

Mixed very, very well and put it into a spray bottle. Then I sprayed the book marker (everything but the tail) until it got pretty soaked. The dried it with a very hot iron. It worked wonderfully!!


Mezclar muy, muy, muy bien y poner la solución en un rociador. Lo que hice luego fue rociar el marcapáginas hasta empaparlo (menos la cola). Luego lo sequé con la plancha bien caliente. ¡Funciona de maravillas!

Now... about the TERRIBLE ACCIDENT :(

Remember the Baltic Blossom Shawl I made with alpaca?

¿Se acuerdan del chal Baltic Blossoms que tejí con alpaca?

Something terrible happened to it... and it is ALL my fault!


Algo terrible le pasó... y ¡TODO por mi culpa!

I was not very happy with the blocking, I found that the shawl was a bit crooked so I decided to reblock it. This time Gummi was helping me (luckily). We were stretching the scalloped edge (the points) when I suddenly look at Gummi's "HORROR FACE"... when I was stretching one points and putting the pin to hold it one of the threads BROKE! I didn't even notice it... but just by looking at Gummi's face I knew there was something wrong! I managed to make a not to join the broken ends and avoid further damage but the result is far from pretty!!


Todo empezó porque no estaba muy satisfecho con el bloqueo. El chal estaba un poquito torcido por lo que decidí rebloquearlo. Esta vez Gummi me ayudó (por suerte). Estábamos estirando las puntas del borde del chal cuando de pronto veo que Gummi está con una "CARA DE HORROR" terrible... cuando yo estaba estirando una de las puntas y poniendo un alfiler para sujetarla ¡¡¡una de las hebras se ROMPIÓ!!! Yo no me di ni cuenta... pero sólo con verle la cara a Gummi supe que algo malo había pasado. De alguna manera casi milagrosa logré atar los dos cabos para evitar que el daño fuera más grande, pero el resultado es un hoyo y una punta muy fea (y visible). :(

The point that is in the middle looks hideous! I wouldn't have cared much if it would have been on a point close to and end but this point is almost at the apex (or vertex??) of the triangle... a very visible part :(
La punta que está al centro de la foto se ve HORRIBLE. No me hubiera importado tanto si se hubiera roto cerca de la vase el trángulo pero no... tenía que pasar en el lugar más visible del chal... cerca del vértice :(

So, I have decided that I cannot give my friend's wife a shawl that has such an ugly defect. I don't really know what I will do with this shawl :( I guess it will end up somewhere in my closet. 


Al final, he decidido que NO le puedo regalar un chal con un fallo tan feo a la esposa de mi amigo. No sé qué voy a hacer con este chal :( Supongo que terminará durmiendo en el fondo de mi armario.

Now, I have already started a new shawl for her... I decided to use a different yarn this time and also another pattern... No more info at the moment, hehe. 


Ya he empezado a tejer un nuevo chal para ella... pero esta vez estoy usando otro estambre (uno muy chulo que encontré en Reykjavík) y estoy usando otro patrón... eso nada más por ahora, hehe.

The Holy Stash: One Year Later / El bendito alijo: Un año más tarde.

It has been a little over a year since the last time I put some order in my stash. It was starting to get so TERRIBLY MESSY that I did not want to get close to it!

Ya ha pasado un año desde la última vez que ordené mi alijo. Ya era hora, pues se estaba empezando a poner tan HORRIBLEMENTE DESORDENADO que ¡ni siquiera me daban ganas de mirarlo!

Now, the stash was not only getting messy but it has also grown quite a bit since last year... that means that I either have to stop buying yarn (which is something that probably won't happen) or I need to knit more!!

Ahora, el alijo no sólo se estaba poniendo muy desordenado sino que además ha crecido un poco desde el año pasado... eso quiere decir que tengo que dejar de comprar lana (cosa que muy probablemente no sucederá) o ¡¡tengo que tejer más!!

Let's take a look at the mess:

So, I started with I have most: plötulopi and léttlopi. Lopi is ALWAYS and will always be in my stash.

Comencé con lo que más abunda en casa: plötulopi y létt lopi. Mi querida Lopi siempre está en mi alijo, y siempre estará.

I assigned one box only for Plötulopi, which is my favorite kind of lopi because it is softer and absolutely fun to knit with! I highly recommend to try it :)

Una de las cajas es sólo para plötulopi, que es mi variedad favorita de lopi porque es más suave y además es una pasada tejer con ella. ¡La recomiendo MUCHO!

Then a box only for létt lopi, another kind of lopi that is ALWAYS around the house:

Then half a box for Einband (to the left), the lopi lace wight, which I use a lot to make shawls (it is very cheap, comes in wonderful colors, blocks incredibly well and it is very light, though it is rather rustic).

And the rest is Kambgarn, the only non-lopi yarn produced by Ístex (that I really don't use so much but strangely I have a lot of it), a skein of angora and two skeins of a swedish red yarn.

La tercera caja está dividida en dos: a la izquierda puse Einband, que es la variedad lace de lopi, la cual uso mucho para hacer chales (es muy barata, viene en colores preciosos, bloquea increíblemente bien y es muy ligera, aunque es más bien rústica).


La otra mitad es Kambgarn, la única lana no lopi que produce Ístex (la cual en realidad no utilizo mucho pero curiosamente tengo montones), una madeja de angora y dos madejas de una lana sueca roja que me regaló una amiga.

As you can see in this box there is an unfinished sock... yes... it is the same sock that I found last year in the same box... I started it almost two years ago! I will finished them this summer!

Como pueden ver, en esta caja hay hasta un calcetín que no he terminado. Es el mismo calcetín que encontré en el alijo el año pasado... calcetín que empecé a tejer hace dos veranos. ¡Soy lo peor! Me he propuesto terminar el par este verano.

Two skeins of Llama Wool that I found in a very cute shop in Reykjavík called Litla Prjónabúðin (The little knit shop) that you can find on Facebook. I am very excited about this one, I have never knit with llama.

Dos madejas de lana de llama que encontré en una tienda muy bonita en Reykjavík que se llama Litla Prjónabúðin (La tiendita de tejido que pueden encontrar en Facebook). Tengo muchas ganas de probar esta lana, nunca he tejido con llama.

These super cool stich markers made with lego pieces. They are from Finland and made completely with recycled materials. And those cute darning needles.

Estos marca puntos súper entretenidos que están hechos con piezas de lego. Son finlandeses y están hechos completamente con materiales reciclados. Y esas agujas de lana súper chulas.

Three WONDERFUL skeins of silk from Greta and the Fibers. I tried it once already to knit the Rock Island and as soon as I finished it I NEEDED to get some more!! And also two skeins of sock yarn also from Greta and the Fibers.

Tres MARAVILLOSAS madejas de seda de Greta and the Fbers. La probé una vez ya para tejer el Rock Island y en cuanto lo terminé ¡¡sentí la NECESIDAD de tener más!! También dos madejas de lana para calcetines de Greta también.

I went with my friend Kristín Hrund to a yarn store downtown in Reykjavík and this cotton yarn caught my eye... I HAD to buy it! It will become a crocheted present for a good, good friend (I will tell you more soon!)

Con mi amiga Kristín Hrund fuimis a una tienda de lanas en el centro de Reykjavík y este algodón se llevó toda mi atención... ¡tanto que tuve que comprarlo! Lo usaré para "ganchillar" un regalo para una queridísima amiga (ya les contaré más)

Talking about what I have on my needles (and my crochet too, hehe)... I am about to finish a shawl that has been taking me forever!! Just one more chart to go! I am very happy with how it is coming out (more details soon also!)

Un poco sobre lo que tengo en las agujas (y ganchillo también, jeje)... estoy a punto de terminar un chal que me ha tomado muchísimo tiempo terminar. ¡Me queda sólo un esquema y termino! Me gusta mucho cómo está quedando :) (más detalles pronto también).

The blankets... the one with flowers and stars is almost done!! We are making the stars now, then the border and block! The hexagons... they are going very slowly. No rush with that :)

Las mantas... la que lleva flores y estrellas está casi, casi lista. Estamos haciendo las estrellas que conectan las flores, luego el borde y ¡ya!. Los hexágonos van lento, pero no hay prisa :)

I am also starting with the bobbins again! It has been too long since the last time I did something related with bobbin lace... the reason why I am starting again is because I needed to practice a little bit since I got a pupil! I have a very dear friend who called me a few weeks ago to ask me if I could teach bobbin lace to a friend of hers who is very interested... IMPOSSIBLE to say no! Especially after having met her... she is ADORABLE!! In return she will teach me some japanese and will cook japanese food, yes!

Estoy empezando a jugar con los bolillos nuevamente después de una larga pausa. El motivo por el que estoy empezando es porque necesito practicar un poquín ¡pues tengo una alumna! Una muy buena amiga mía me llamó hace unas semanas para decirme que tenía una amiga que estaba muy interesada en aprender a hacer encaje de bolillo... ¡IMPOSIBLE decir que no! Especialmente después de haberla conocido... ella es ADORABLE! A cambio me va a enseñar japonés y cocinará comida japonesa, ¡sí!

So, I will be teaching her the super very basics that I know... which I hope it will be useful for her at least as a start.

I am working on a bookmark. I am using 20 pairs of bobbins and cotton nº20. The bookmark is made on a torchon ground, it has a few spiders, and half stitch and cloth stitch diamonds.

Estoy trabajando en un marca páginas. Estoy usando 20 pares de bolillos y algodón nº20. El marca páginas está hecho en base de torchón (a medio punto), tiene arañas y diamantes hechos a medio punto y punto entero.
