More Northern Lights tonight!

I am just coming back home after having been lying on the moss-covered-lava  field that is just behind where I live watching the northern lights (second night in a row). It was a little bit cold but it didn't really matter.

Tonight there was a real symphony of color in the sky! The northern lights were dancing just above our heads. The spectacle was simply priceless.

I am so excited that couldn't wait until tomorrow to post this!

No more words... here come the pictures. Enjoy! :þ

When we were driving from Straumur to the road that goes to Krísuvík the lights were so intense that a lot of people was just stopping on the road to take a look at this magnificent spectacle.

The lights were moving so much! It is a pity I don't have a good video camera!

Everytime I see the aurora borealis I cannot stop thinking about how lucky I am to be able to see them. It is so overwhelming that is very easy to get emotional to the point that some (happiness) tears roll down...

  2. THANK YOU!! Your pictures are gorgeous and I couldn't get enough of them. I totally understand the overwhelming emotion that occurs when seeing something like this. The very first picture with the white houses with the red roofs and then reflected in the water is so beautiful. I couldn't believe how large and seemingly close the lights seem. The ones I've seen personally have had other colors along with the green. How wonderful for you to experience this again - and yes, I do see you. :-) Enjoy it for me, and thanks, again, for sharing.
Forgot to mention that the "Great Lakes" (5) surrounding Michigan are so huge that they look like the ocean. You cannot see across them and they will freeze over in the winters so thickly and so far out that people drive cars and trucks on it, mainly to reach fishing shanties on the ice for fishing. Cutting through feet of ice can be a challenge. Also, the lower and upper peninsulas are connected by the largest suspension bridge made (the Mackinac - pronounced Mackinaw - Bridge). It can even sway during high winds and certain vehicles will not be allowed to cross during that time. There have been a few blown right off the bridge - no, no survivors. I have always loved bridges, and this is by far my favorite.
Well, enough - time for bed. Again, thank you!

  10. Dear Judi, last night the activity in the sky was absolutely crazy! They were moving so much that people was stopping andcoming out of their cars just to take a look at this amazing spectacle. We're so lucky here that we can enjoy this from september to april whenever the sky is clear :) Now you got me really curious about Michigan! I love nature! And after having seen the pictures you sent showed me... uff! What about Alabama? I don't know why I get the feeling that it is kind of flat and dry... correct me if I am wrong : )

Faeryfay: It is!! I have seen them many times but everytime is just amazing!

    Juntitos: Gracias!

Besotees!

Christa: This is one of the things that stay with you forever in your memories. I never thought I was going to see them.... and here I am. It is amazing every time!
