Mayo es el mes en que los corderitos llegan al mundo y nosotros tenemos la suerte de tener una tía que tiene una granja, que queda más o menos a una hora y media de Reykjavík, donde tenemos la oportunidad de presenciar tan bonito evento cada año.

Shortly after they are born all the sheep and their lambs are set free in the mountains where they spend the whole summer feeding of mountain grass and just enjoying freedom until September comes.
Al poco tiempo de nacer, todas las ovejas y sus corderitos son dejados en libertad en las montañas donde se la pasan pastando todo el verano y disfrutando de la libertad hasta que llega septiembre.

In September the farmers go to the mountains to find their flocks and bring them back to the farm. All the sheep are gathered together and then the fun begins!!
En septiembre, la gente de las granjas de un área específica se reúne para ir a la montaña para encontrar sus rebaños y traerlos de vuelta a casa para pasar el invierno. Todas la ovejas son reunidas y es allí donde empieza la diversión :)
All the sheep are brought into a rounded structure that has "drawers" that allow to organize the animals, bring all the lambs, rams and sheep that belong to a farm together to be able to take them back to farm later on.
Las ovejas son traídas a una estructura circular que tiene "cajones" que permiten organizar las ovejas de acuerdo a qué granja pertenece. Es allí donde empieza nuestra labor... encontrar nuestras ovejas, ponerlas en el "cajón" correspondiente y luego llevarlas a casa.
Now this is not all about work. This is a great opportunity to come together, gather the family, see friends, have a few drinks, sing together and then EAT!! (I guess it is pretty obvious what is eaten after the gathering, right?! hehe).
Ahora, no todo es sólo trabajo. Muy por el contrario. Esta es una gran oportunidad para reunirse, encontrarse con la familia, ver amigos, beber un poco, cantar y COMER! (creo que es bastante obvio decir qué es lo que se come ¿no? jeje)
So, this year, the day after we arrived from Barcelona we put on our lopapeysas and went straight to Fljótshlíð to help gathering the sheep!
Este año, al día siguiente de haber llegado desde Barcelona, nos pusimos nuestros lopapeysas y nos fuimos directo a Fljótshlí´para ayudar a recolectar las ovejas.

Now, talking about knitting... I am finally starting to finish some UFOs!!! During the last two months I have only been adding and adding projects to the queue without finishing anything but quick projects (like crochet collars).
Ahora, hablando un poquín sobre tejido... Al fin estoy empezando a terminar algunos proyectos inclonclusos. En estos últimos dos meses lo único que he hecho es agregar más y más cosas a la cola sin terminar nada, excepto por proyectos rápidos (como los cuellos a crochet).

The Baby Surprise Jacket (BSJ) is one of those patterns that you definitely have to knit more than once! So, everytime I get the chance to do so (when a friend becomes pregnant the first thing that comes into my mind is the BSJ!)... I just do it!
La Baby surprise Jacket (BSJ) es uno de esos patrones que tienes que tejer al menos una vez. Cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de tejerla no lo pienso dos veces y lo hago (de hecho, cada vez que una amiga está embarazada lo primero que pienso es en la BSJ).
So, now I had the chance to knit the third one!

* The pattern, what can I say about the pattern?!?! I think it is one of the most amazing things ever. I can hardly imagine how E. Zimmermann could make something like this. From a piece of a funny shaped knitted fabric it is possible to get a perfectly shaped baby jacket... it is just magic.
* El patrón. ¿Qué puedo decir sobre este patrón? Para mí es uno de los patrones más increíbles. Apenas me puedo imaginar en qué estaría pensando la señora Zimmermann cuando se le ocurrió diseñar esta chaqueta. De una pieza bastante amorfa se consigue una chaqueta perfectamente formada... es magia pura.
* The yarn. Ay the yarn! I think I have said before that I am not a huge fan of Noro... but it seems that I easily forget that. I think that Noro is a good choice for a BSJ, the colors are cool and makes the jacket look really cute BUT that would be it. On the negative side:
- It is WAY too expensive.
- For the money I paid I would expect no knots... but there are ALWAYS knots!
- Where the knots are the color progression is lost, ALWAYS.
- The thickness of the yarn is not even. I just had to cut some sections out because they were just HORRIBLE.
* El hilo. Uff el hilo. Creo que antes ya había dicho no soy un gran fanático de las lanas Noro... pero parece que eso se me olvida fácilmente... pues la usé nuevamente. Me parece que Noro es una buena opción para tejer una BSJ porque viene en colores muy guay que le dan un aspecto muy bonito y divertido a la chaqueta, PERO eso sería todo. Por el lado negativo:
- Es MUY cara.
- Por todo el dinero que gasté en ella esperaría no encontrar nudos,,, SIEMPRE trae nudos.
- Cada vez que hay un nudo el color cambia drásticamente, SIEMPRE. Se pierde la progresión de los colores.
- El grosor de la lana es muy irregular. Tuve incluso que cortar algunas secciones porque eran simplemente horribles.
* So, I say it again: I won't use it again. And this time I won't forget it!!!
* Entonces, una vez más: Nunca más voy a usar Noro. Y esta vez no lo olvidaré.
* Overall, even though I was not happy about the yarn, I am very pleased with the final result. I wish I would have had some more yarn left to knit a hood, but instead I would only make a crochet border around the neckline.
* En general, a pesar del malestar que me produjo la lana, estoy muy contento con el resultado. Me hubiera gustado tener un poco más de lana para haberle agregado una capucha, pero sólo pude hacer un borde a ganchillo alrededor del cuello.

Now, one last thing before you get bored. Last Saturday Gummi and me met Dagga, the owner of the cutest yarn shop in Reykjavík, Litla Prjónabúðin. She wanted to learn how to knit a Hyrna Herborgar, so I am giving her a hand with it... I am very excited to see how this will work out!!
